2020 Challenges + Learnings for 2021

When our founders started Particle, their dream was to empower patients to take control of their medical data and use it to enrich their lives. They also aimed at fueling innovation in healthcare by building a single platform, and they learned a lot of hard things along the way.

If 2020 was a year of disruption and validation...

…Then 2021 will be the year of focus and growth.

When we founded this company, our dream was to empower patients to take control of their medical data and use it to enrich their lives. To fix a system that inhibited doctors from doing their jobs, and to open up healthcare for some serious innovation.  The mission was to build a single platform to accomplish all of this.

We ended up learning a lot of hard things along the way, like…

  • The rapid policy and technological evolutions of interoperability
  • That small teams, like ours, can build new and powerful things - but we have to be selective with what we did and how we did it.
  • Product-Market-Fit is a tricky beast.

And that allowed us to:

  • Simplify the myriad of data formats into well structured, easy to parse FHIR
  • Be brutally honest about what we prioritized, why we selected it and what we had to leave on the back burner.
  • Realize that an API or a Platform is not our product; the data we deliver is.
  • Renew our focus on fixing the gap in patient access to data.

Ultimately, we are the most proud of our team of passionate, mission-driven folks who have decided to take this crazy journey with us. All around, just rockstars on the same wavelength.

And we can’t wait until we can finally serve patient records directly back to patients.

Now we are in a new year, finally ready to kick off the new decade… and we resolve to put the patient first, enabling them to receive better care, faster, and to use their medical data to make our lives better.

Stay tuned for our major announcement coming soon - hint: FHIR. 🔥
